Shopify » Rich text

A Shopify Rich text works similar to the ACF type HTML, but the value is stored in Shopify’s own rich text format, so it also works with Shopify’s Theme Customizer and other apps that read native metafields.

Shopify’s rich text format only supports headings (levels 1–6), paragraphs, bold and italic text, links and bulleted or numbered lists.

Caution

Anything else, such as images, tables, text colors or embedded HTML, is removed when the value is saved. If you need that kind of content, use the ACF type HTML instead

To render the content as HTML, apply the metafield_tag filter to the metafield itself (not to .value):

Note

Outputting .value directly returns the raw rich text data as JSON rather than formatted HTML. Links always open in a new tab on your storefront

Converting existing fields

If you change an existing ACF HTML or Markdown field to Shopify » Rich text, any formatting that Shopify’s rich text format doesn’t support is removed the next time each value is saved. Check a few values after converting. See Change field name and type for more details.
